Built
as studio principally for orchestras and military bands.
Total volume was 27,000 cubic feet - reverberation time of 1.1s |
8A
was at the top of Broadcasting House, with the upper half of the studio
poking above the roof line of the 8th floor. The picture on the left shows
just how the studio extended above the limit of the 8th floor.
The studio was intended for use as by military bands and orchestras. The photo below shows the art deco interior looking south to the front of the buidling. The conductor's podium is in the foreground, and the two small windows at the end of the studio lead into the "listening room" and "silence" area.
Like all studio areas, its microphones were amplified and fed to control positions in the Control Room.
