to channel water, particularly along the edge of a roof, in northern
US the term eaves trough is often used.

England/English |
|
Many
Americans will, incorrectly, refer to anyone from the United Kingdom
as "English". Unfortunately, many people from the UK get
very upset at this. It's due to a mis-understanding, and in some ways
is no different to the typical British view that California or Florida
or New York represent the entire US. Some Americans do, like those
in the US, refer to those from the UK as "British", which
in itself is a slight misnomer ... for more on this, see the entry
for British. |

spin
(on a ball)
To
apply a bit of English to a ball, whether it be thrown or rolled,
is to apply a side-spin to the ball. |

Muffins |
|
Muffin
An English Muffin is really what BE would simply
call a muffin. That is a round piece of bread dough, usually
toasted. The term is used to differentiate this from the American
muffin (qv) which is a small, sweet bread roll more like a
small cake than a bread. |
Eraser |

Rubber
This
could either be a normal pencil rubber or a blackboard rubber. Bear
in mind that in US slang, a rubber usually means a condom! |
Estate
Agent (BE) |
|
Realtor
(AE)
Although
the term Estate Agent is known in the US, it literally means
an agent who works for an estate. In the BE sense of someone
who sells properties, or real estate, the Americans have Realtors.
